Metal beds can be made from a range of different metals. These include iron beds, brass beds and polished chrome beds. Iron beds are perhaps the most auhentic of metal beds. The use of iron for making bedsteads goes back hundreds of years.

Iron beds have a distinct disadvantage compared to other beds in that risk blemishing and rust. Many iron beds are therefore made of alloys that resist corrosion. Some include zinc or nickel, both of which resist corrosion whilst retaining the classic "iron" colour.
